Don’t Miss the Boat: A Journey Back to the True Self

By Shivani Manghani, UK

This testimonial, ‘Don’t Miss the Boat: A Journey Back to the True Self’ is a reflection of the way back to our true home through the grace of the Master.

As I sit there, a thought randomly crosses my mind. Is it my thought? No, I am only a speck of dust at my master’s feet; such a thought is far too profound for me to create it. Yes, it’s Mohanji that’s brought this thought into my mind, and has nudged me to share it with everyone, so here it is.

You are a wealthy person living in a huge mansion; you have everything you need, plus a surplus to share. You are loving and compassionate, surrounded by people who elevate you and want to bring out your highest form.

One day, you decide to go on a trip to an island in your yacht that you bought for this trip. You carefully designed this yacht according to your needs and specifications. You decide the number of days you’ll spend there, plan out the entire itinerary of where you’ll go, what you’ll eat, what you’ll see, who you’ll meet, everything in utter detail. The day finally comes when you are ready to embark on this beautiful journey; you bid farewell to your people and set out. Having reached the destination safely with no troubles whatsoever, you find yourself in amazement at this beautiful island. There are many strangers on this island, and you believe that they will be exactly the same as the people from your place.

However, as destiny holds it, the yacht in which you came in broke down completely. There is no one on the island who knows you, so you cannot ask for help to get your yacht repaired. Only you know where you came from, and how to get back home. You decide to put off the repair for another day and try to relax and enjoy your holiday, since you are already there. There are no hotels on this island where you can stay, so you decide to build your house with wood, hay, stone and other materials that you find locally. It’s a small house with a weak roof, but you think it’s just temporary, so you don’t mind being there. The food is limited, and you need to go to work to sustain yourself.

You meet the people on this island; some are compassionate and loving, but others resent you and betray you. You realise this was not as you had imagined it to be. You got many life lessons and learnt a lot from all the experiences. Days, months and even years passed by. You are slowly forgetting everything, and your yacht is at the point of no repair. You are very happy and comfortable in this new setting, with all its atrocities, and you’ve completely forgotten who you are, where you came from, your people, your true home. You are content with your broken house, shredded clothes, bare minimum supplies, work, politics and all the people surrounding you, no matter how they are. This is because – you have become one of them!

One fine day, a man comes who looks like he’s come from the same place as you. He seems wealthy, rich and needs nothing from you. You find him familiar, but you doubt him as you are now completely transformed into something else. He tries to explain who you are and where you’ve come from, but your mind has completely forgotten all about it. You challenge him, resent him and don’t believe in any word he says. He offers to take you with him on his exclusive yacht back home. He knows the route, he knows where you live, and he knows who you truly are, not what you are portraying to be; however, you don’t trust him at all. You think that, as the people on this island have betrayed you, he may be one of them. You refuse to go on with him, and then he finally decides to leave. You are stuck on this island, and there is no chance of you going back home again.

This life of ours is exactly like that. If you’ve understood the relevance of this story, you’ll know who our guide is. He’s come here especially for our sake, and we like fools doubt him, challenge him, push him away. We look for all types of Gurus and guides but ignore the one who’s right in front of our eyes. You cannot even see him if you are not eligible, so consider yourself lucky to be in his presence. Like Paramhansa Yogananda said, we are the true celibates, not the sages, as we leave the riches of our true self and run after earthly pleasures and material wealth. If you are reading this, then Mohanji wanted you to hear this. Grab hold of him, get off this island and go back home to your true, authentic self. Don’t let him go this time, and let him guide you to your final destination. Have blind faith in him, and he will come to your rescue. You are fortunate to be on this planet at the same time as him at this time-space junction, so don’t let this opportunity pass by.

Don’t miss the boat this time!
