Grace Sang Through Me

by Surya Sujan, India

This is a story of how Surya got her voice back through Mohanji’s grace.

For more than a year, I have been struggling with a throat issue. The pain eases sometimes, and it worsens at other times. If I strain my voice too much, my throat feels as if it is locked up. In April 2025, I consulted a doctor in Mangalapuram, and he diagnosed nodules on my vocal cords. In allopathy, the only treatment suggested was voice rest, but to be honest, I did not follow the doctor’s advice. As my son’s wedding preparations began, I had to speak a lot to coordinate and organise everything, which worsened the condition.

On 7th September 2025, I went to meet Mohanji at a public event. As usual, I went up to the stage to greet him and take his blessings. While speaking, Mohanji suddenly looked at my throat, pressed it gently twice, and said, “See Dr. Umesh.”

Dr. Umesh is Mohanji’s classmate. He is a Homoeopathic doctor with years of experience in the UK, Kuwait, the US, and India. He is also my childhood friend. I immediately called him after the program. He arranged medicines for me from Bangalore and said, “Within 21 days, we will sing a song together.” I began the treatment and felt hopeful.

However, painting work was going on at home, and the smell of paint, the chemicals, the dust—all of it made my throat worse. One day, while polishing some wooden seats for the pooja room, I suddenly felt a burning sensation in my eyes, and I also experienced difficulty in breathing and chest pain. At that very moment, my son called me, and he was shocked when he heard my voice. “Today, you don’t sound like my mother,” he said, “You sound like my grandmother, or like her sister who recently passed away.”

His words broke me inside. After the call, I opened the windows, took long breaths, and lay down on my bed, feeling tired, weak, and sad. Tears flowed as I remembered my mother.

Just then, a message arrived in my Sai Baba group: “Beta, please understand that overthinking and being overly emotional are not healthy ways of living. Free your mind and leave all your battles to Sai. Om Sairam.”

These words touched my heart deeply. Peace slowly replaced my sadness.

The next morning, while resting at home, I received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. The contact name showed as “Hari Om.” Out of curiosity, I played the voice note. It was a devotional song — a prayer to God for protection, for healing of the throat, for the blessing to sing and chant loudly in devotion to the Divine Mother, asking Lord Dhanvantari for the medicine of sound, recalling how the deity had blessed Chembai Bhagavathar with his voice, and seeking the same blessing.

The song felt as if it had been written just for me, or perhaps, as if it had come through me. Soon after, I received the lyrics too, attributed to Sri Hari Namboothiri.

Lyrics of the song in Malayalam

I called Mohanji to ask about him. Mohanji responded, “I don’t know Sri Hari Namboothiri. This is Sai Baba’s play. Baba acts through pure hearts. Chant this song every day.”

Later, I managed to connect with Sri Hari Namboothiri himself. He revealed something astonishing:

“On 20th September 2025, the same night you prayed for your throat, I was inspired to write that song during my Devi Bhagavatham parayanam at Mattam (on 24th September 2025). I, too, had throat issues and had lost my voice then. I never shared this song with anyone. I don’t know how it reached you.”

At that moment, I realised the truth: God connects pure hearts in mysterious ways. This is the secret of grace.

For me, this was not just a coincidence. This was Sai Baba’s hand. He first connected me to Mohanji, and now, through Mohanji, my connection with Sai Baba has deepened. And through this divine chain, Baba brought Sri Hari Namboothiri’s prayer to me exactly when I needed it the most.

Mohanji later reminded me: “After parents, it is the Guru, and after Guru, it is God. You are a blessed soul, carrying the grace of Mohanji, Sai Baba, and all Gurus.”

This experience taught me that, even in the midst of physical suffering and life’s challenges, the presence of God and Guru is the true medicine. Pain is temporary, but divine grace is eternal. Good hearts will always find each other—not by chance, but by the unseen hand of the Divine.

Sai Baba connects hearts, and the Guru deepens that connection. And when the heart is pure, the divine itself creates bridges between souls.
