Miracles at the Mohanji Village Temple

By Devadas Ambayi Chithran, India

An experience of miracles at the Mohanji Village Temple, Prayagraj

The Mohanji Village, at the Kumbh Mela 2025, Prayagraj! It was an extraordinary milestone in the history of the Mohanji Foundation, and it wasn’t a simple or easy dream to fulfill. But it became a reality. As the village was being created, the central attraction was the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, right in the middle and the first to be seen as one enters the main gate – a beautiful, hutlike structure. A platform for placing Baba’s idol was created. Shirdi Baba’s murti was brought in and placed on the platform. On January 12th 2025, Mohanji himself arrived at the village. As soon as he came to the village, he came to the temple and asked me to look after Baba and all the daily rituals for Baba, every day, without any compromise! For me, this was my Guru Vakya – command from my Guru! It was indeed a great privilege for me. Unfathomable! The first kakad aarati (morning aarati) commenced on the January 13th.

It was a moment of immense joy and devotion as the divine vibrations filled the space. However, the journey was not without its tests.

First of all, the weather! In the middle of January, Prayagraj, that too at the banks of River Ganga, it was bitter cold, not just in the morning or night, but the entire day. Coming from a hot place like Kerala, I wasn’t used to this cold weather.

Secondly, these were still the very early days of the establishment of the Mohanji Village. We still didn’t have all the facilities, especially the hot water in the bathrooms. Every morning, without fail, I was taking a shower in the cold water and preparing for the arati rituals. However, my body resisted.

From the very first day of performing the aarati, I felt an intense pain in my back, a discomfort so severe that it became difficult to hold the panch aarati lamp. A fellow devotee, Ami, often stepped in to help me hold the lamp when the pain became unbearable. But I knew that this was Baba’s way of testing my devotion and perseverance.

After continuing like this for three days, on the fourth day, an inner calling came to take a dip in the sacred Ganges before performing the aarati. Trusting this divine instinct, I immersed myself in the holy river. Definitely, the sacred river cleansed me. To my amazement, from the very next day, my back pain began to ease, and within six to seven days, I was completely free of it. Baba and Mohanji’s grace were evident, and this profound experience humbled me.

But my trials were not over. A month later, on February 20th, the back pain unexpectedly returned, accompanied by frequent bouts of dizziness. It was disheartening. I could no longer hold the lamp steadily and had to pass it on to my wife, Anila, or the other devotees who were present. Recognizing that this was beyond my physical endurance, I decided to reach out to Mohanji, although deep within, I knew that he was already aware of my suffering.

The next day, I entered Mohanji’s room. As I narrated my condition, he listened with a gentle smile. Just as I was about to leave and return to the temple, he reached for a piece of Mysore Paa (a type of sweet) from the sweet box beside him and handed it to me. “Have this medicine for both problems,” he said with a subtle look.

I took it with reverence and ate it immediately. What followed was nothing short of a miracle. From that very moment, both my dizziness and back pain vanished completely! I stood in awe, feeling an indescribable lightness in my body. I returned to the temple with renewed energy and performed the aarati without any hindrance. Such is the grace of a true Guru—silent, subtle, yet immensely powerful.

aarati-miracles

Now, I will mention another miracle that we all witnessed in the temple of Mohanji village.

The Sai Baba temple at the Kumbh Mohanji Village had become a great attraction, drawing not just the residents but also visitors who felt the divine presence there.  All four times, aaratis were being performed daily. However, the noon aarati posed a significant challenge. The strong winds that swept through the area often made it almost impossible to keep the panch aarati lamp lit. Again and again, the flames would be extinguished despite our best efforts. We tried shielding the lamp with cardboard sheets, but it was a struggle. Performing the aarati became challenging, testing our patience and dedication.

For nearly a week, we battled the relentless winds. Eventually, we decided to seek Mohanji’s guidance, knowing that his wisdom would illuminate the path forward. When we explained this problem to him, he listened calmly and then gave us an unexpected instruction in his characteristic simple yet profound manner. “Place my photo on the roof of the temple, facing the sky,” he said.

Without hesitation, Mamuji arranged for someone to climb up and carefully place the photo on the temple roof. What happened next left us in sheer awe. From the very next day, the fierce winds that had troubled us for so long subsided. The afternoon wind became mild, and we were able to perform the noon aarati without any disturbance. The flames of the panch aarati lamp flickered gently but stayed alight, dancing gracefully in sync with the devotion of our hearts.

I was overwhelmed by this divine intervention and felt an immense urge to express my gratitude. I went to Mohanji’s room and prostrated at his feet, thanking him for his immeasurable grace. But in his ever-humble manner, he simply smiled and remarked, “I am not responsible for the consequences of the wind or if the photo is shaken or falls down.”

At that moment, Aditi looked at Mohanji and said, “It is you who brought the wind here in the first place!” Mohanji chuckled and replied, “I cannot control nature, but when I say, nature can change direction and pass through other routes when it sees my face.”

These words struck a deep chord within me. The power of a true Guru is beyond comprehension. They do not command nature with ego but instead exist in such harmony with the cosmos that nature itself bows in reverence. This was also an indication of the presence of Lord Datta amongst us. Witnessing this divine leela firsthand reinforced my faith and devotion beyond measure.

This experience was not just a series of events but the realisation of the unseen hand of the Guru, guiding, testing, and ultimately protecting those who walk the path with sincerity. My time at the Sai Baba temple in Mohanji Village was filled with trials, but each challenge only deepened my faith and strengthened my connection with my Guru. To this day, I carry these blessings in my heart, knowing that the Guru’s grace is ever-present, watching over me, guiding me through every storm, and ensuring that the light of devotion never fades.
