Sacred Echoes: Abhishekam, Devotion, and the Invisible Hand of Grace

Sacred Maha Shivaratri experience at Kumbh Mela 2025

Grace and Gratitude

Life brought such kindness because of the attitude of gratitude and plenty of beneficial efforts in the past. On Earth, there is a universal law of cause and effect. Therefore, Mohanji’s grace is not easy to deserve. It is sacred and priceless. I haven’t done much in this life, so having his grace must be some reward from past lives. For example, spontaneously, for healing purposes, I came to know through the Mohanji Transformation Method that in one of my previous lives, I used to live in India, serving a Guru. I was on a bhakti path then. That is when I accumulated a lot of good karma, which made me eligible to meet and stay with a master like Mohanji now.

Everyone who has recognised Mohanji and come to him is not by chance. Each of us must have done a lot of tapasya (penance) over many lifetimes with an intense desire for such a sacred presence, and it finally happened in this life.

Who’s really mature will stick to this connection no matter what, keeping in mind completion. Regarding completion, Mohanji always tells us about a touching poem he received as a gift for his birthday in 2024. A man wrote a poem and had it recorded by somebody. The poem illustrates what is essential in connection with a master to get liberated.

The poem goes like this, in an improvised translation, “When I’m old, and my eyes weaken, let your image be the last image I’ll see. When my hearing becomes weaker, let your voice be the last sound I’ll hear.” And so on…

Grace to experience completion needs to be deserved. It’s the only thing worth fighting for.

How do we ensure grace?

Through selfless service and gratitude!

I learnt from Mohanji, “What you have now could be the distant dream of another. The position you hold, your possessions, or even your current relationships could be someone else’s unachievable dream. So be grateful. Have deep gratitude for all that you have. An ungrateful attitude is the biggest curse that you can inflict on yourself. Those who complain about what they do not have, ignoring all that they have been blessed with, are truly poor at heart. Their poverty consciousness never gives them any kind of satisfaction out of their life. This is the real misfortune of life. Nothing else is so bad.”

Knowing that gratitude brings strength, stability and grace to life, plus keeps the mind pure, I kept filling my heart with gratitude at Kumbh Mela too, whether Mohanji was physically there or not.

Silent craving for Mohanji’s presence

sacred-meeting

During our stay at Kumbh Mela in Mohanji Village in Prayagraj, we had Mohanji with us until February 24th. Then, he had to leave for the event scheduled on February 25th, 2025. Mohanji was invited to talk at The Rising Sun Conclave 2 in New Delhi. This event focused on the Indo-Japanese connection and collaborations, and Mohanji talked with Nupur, the event organiser and founder of Connect India Japan. Mohanji said he wouldn’t be able to come back to Kumbh Mela.

However, we were all hoping he would, especially as we know his flexibility and sudden changes in decisions. Elham approached me, saying, “Let’s pray to Mohanji to come for Maha Shivaratri.” I was observing my inner monologue and noticed that I didn’t want to “put pressure” on him with my prayers, as he is mission-bound and needs to be where he needs to be. I was saying something more like, “I would really like you to be here with us, but do as you have to. I travelled thousands of kilometres for your presence, and I am happy I have seen you at least for two to three days. We never have enough of you. I know you are everywhere; I always feel you, but we love to have you here physically, too, if possible. If not, I’m fine with just connecting with you energetically.”

Abishekam

While doing abishekam to Shiva Lingam during Maha Shivaratri on the night of 26th-27th February 2025, one man joined me in pouring water in a thin stream over it. Suddenly, I had a flashback of doing it with my Guru, whom I loved so dearly. His forearm shined more brightly and familiarly that my heart cracked open and, my throat started choking, and tears started filling my eyes. I was just looking at his hand and forearm doing Abhishekam.

A thought crossed my mind, “Maybe it is like a deja vu from another life, but it is so real. I have never had such an engrossing, captivating and strong deja vu.”

Then I asked myself, “Am I fancying doing it with Mohanji? No, I am not.” It was not that desire. I didn’t “want” any experience with Mohanji. I am always fine with what comes to me. But this experience was happening. It was real. I felt overwhelmed with love, especially on that day and the day before, when we had meditations with Mohanji Energy Transfer (MET). MET is so powerful that it cleanses a lot on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, removes blockages, helps in letting go, and lets a person operate in the present moment much more lightly. As a result, sometimes emotions come out too.

So, I attributed my state to the effects of MET and the overall effect of Kumbh Mela, taking dips, etc.

Smoothly taking turns in spite of empty slots

During the Maha Shivaratri night, in spite of the slots we took for taking turns in doing Abishekam, several early morning hours after midnight were empty. This was mostly because most people were leaving that night. The road was so crowded after the last Kumbh Mela Day that a usual 45-minute drive to the Prayagraj airport took 8-9 hours. So, most participants had to take a taxi 12 hours before the flight, i.e. leave earlier than planned.

I decided to keep an eye on it and jump in whenever needed so that the Abishekam would keep flowing without interruption. Gradually, it became very cold, about 5-10 degrees Celsius, and the ground was wet. My socks were becoming wet too, and I was wondering how it would go in the end, as I would not be able to endure it for hours. Most of us were not used to it, therefore, we kept slots of 30 minutes.

I would then warm my feet near Homa, under my jacket and come back a few more times. I also helped by bringing more water – the water from the Ganga river (Ganga jal) mixed with tap water. Gangajal made the Abishekam even more sacred. Mohanji says that every drop poured on the Shiva Lingam counts to get elevated in consciousness. We carried Ganga jal home for Mohanji Centres of Benevolence and Mohanji Peace Centers to do Abishekam there, too.

What I noticed was that, unexpectedly, even after 2 am, despite empty slots and fewer people, there was always somebody approaching and pouring water on the Shiva Lingam. Wow, Mohanji takes care of everything, I thought.

Insight of Mohanji receiving Abishekam

After Maha Shivaratri, Subhasree Thottungal shared her experience of her vision, which showed how Mohanji is everywhere. She posted it in WhatsApp groups.

After giving a powerful talk at the Indo-Japan Conclave in New Delhi, Mohanji went to Bangalore. She was with him as a PA. He asked her to massage his feet because he felt unwell, but we know that though there may be medical reasons for that, he also cleansed a lot of negativities from people at Kumbh Mela, and most likely in New Delhi, too. Now, he was churning it, neutralising it. He usually deals with it silently. So, there could be other reasons why he asked Subhasree to share this experience with us, too.

A lot of people travelled to Kumbh Mela to be with Mohanji. Due to his commitments, he had to leave on February 24th. He must have felt how people were praying for his coming back for Maha Shivaratri.

While massaging his feet, initially looking at Mohanji’s closed eyes, she saw a sleeping Vishnu. He was sitting one foot over another, which looked like a lotus. Her hands were burning from the heat of his toes, and she felt Shiva because the intensity was so strong.

Suddenly she understood that Mohanji was receiving Abishekam happening in Mohanji Village at Kumbh Mela. And through her, he conveyed a message: “I am with you. And I was with you for Maha Shivaratri, too.” His presence is everywhere!

Real-time experience of Mohanji’s presence, not deja vu

When I read Subhasree’s sharing, I realised how the flashback I had of pouring gangajal on the Shiva Lingam with my Guru was actually feeling Mohanji doing it with me. I was feeling his true presence beyond his form. Even now, while I am writing this, my throat chokes and tears come when I remember it.

The experience was real, and I felt it. The Guru’s hand was Mohanji’s hand. Literally, it was another man’s hand and forearm, but it triggered this experience. And I was right – it was not a desire. It was much better than that – it was a reality.

Mohanji does receive everybody’s prayers, and he responds accordingly in his own unfathomable ways. He has a customised approach for everybody.

Now, when I think about it, I realise that he deliberately gave Subhasree this task of massaging his feet and then a vision to convey his message to all of us at Kumbh who wanted his presence.
