A Sacred Reawakening

By Shaju Mangalam, India

Pathirisseri Dharma Sastha Pratishtha – A Sacred Reawakening of the Moola Sthaanam of the Family Deity of Mohanji

“Temple Construction is classified as a “Mahapunyakarma” (great meritorious deed), like” Annadana” (feeding the needy), Vastra Dana (clothing the deprived), “Vidhyadhana” (educating the poor and marginalised), temple construction is seen to give back to society and cosmos.”

On this auspicious day, May 28th, 2025, I was deeply honoured and blessed to witness and be part of the sacred Pratishtha (consecration) of “Dharma Sastha”—the revered family deity of the Pathirisseri lineage, into which the great Master and global humanitarian Mohanji was born. This sacred event of Praana Prathishta marks the reinstatement of the moola sthanam, the original spiritual seat, in the divine land of Kundurkkunnu, nestled in the ancient and pious Valluvanad region of Kerala. The excessive and heavy downpour that occurred during this sacred occasion signifies the divinity of the weeklong pooja, which started a week ago.

Temples are never born merely out of the human will.  No matter the resources or intentions, the Chaithanyam—the divine presence—descends only when the deity wills it. This Prathishta is not just a ceremony; it is a celestial intervention—a calling that has echoed across time and is now answered.

In ancient belief, the construction or rebuilding of a temple could help cleanse not only one’s own karmic debts but also the sins of previous generations, liberating many souls from the hold of their karmic effects. This is also linked to the concept of Pitru-Dosha, which refers to the karmic debt owed to one’s ancestors. Building a temple, especially with sincere intent and dharmic purpose, is considered a powerful remedy to release ancestral souls and uplift family karma.

For many years, the sacred presence of “Dharma Sastha”, though rooted in the lineage, lacked daily worship and ritual nourishment. The subtle pain of this divine disconnection has been deeply felt by Mohanji, whose life and mission have always been aligned with reviving and preserving divine traditions, especially the lineage of Dattatreya. He has been a tireless force behind the establishment of Dattatreya temples and sanctuaries worldwide. Yet, the missing link—his own kuladaivam, his ancestral deity—remained in silence, awaiting revival.

This absence may have created karmic turbulence, reflected in the struggles endured by several members of his extended family over the years. There were several untimely deaths and health-related sufferings in the family that could not go unnoticed, and the act of resurrecting the divine presence is the one and only sacred path which can minimise the sufferings, as per the astrological assessment done on behalf of the family. Mohanji must have realised that for true harmony and ancestral blessings to flow, the “Moola Kshetram” of Dharma Sastha needed to be restored, honoured, and re-consecrated.

Today, that divine will has been fulfilled. The sacred energy has been reawakened, the ancestral chain reconnected, and the deity re-established in the hearts and hearth of the lineage. It is not merely a ritual—it is a karmic cleansing, a spiritual upliftment not just for the family but for countless souls connected to Mohanji and the broader spiritual tradition. This is a moment of deep reverence, grace, and inner silence. To witness this divine fulfilment is a blessing beyond words. A great Yuga Sankalp has taken form, and may the light of Dharma Sastha guide, protect, and bless all beings in the lineage and those who walk the path of righteousness.

“Vana dharma sasthavu” refers to Lord Ayyappan, a Hindu deity also known as Dharma Sastha, and the concept of a forest deity or guardian. The term “Vana” means forest, “dharma” means righteousness or duty, and “sasthavu” or “sastha” refers to Ayyappan.

A Divine Homecoming: Rekindling the Sacred Umblical Connection at Kundurkkunnu

Another profoundly moving aspect of Dharma Sastha Prathishta of the Pathirisseri family is the sacred geographical location in which it unfolds—Kundurkkunnu, a place not merely chosen but divinely destined. This tranquil, power-filled hill in Valluvanad is where Mohanji took his physical birth—a soul who would one day illuminate countless lives with compassion, clarity, and spiritual purpose.

It was here in Kundurkunnu, in this blessed land, that the seeds of his silent inner evolution were sown. In the loving company of his grandfather, surrounded by the timeless rhythms of nature and tradition, Mohanji’s spiritual vision began to take shape—long before the world would know him as a Master. His heart has always held a deep, unshakable love for Kundurkkunnu, the sacred soil that shaped his early consciousness.

The shift of the devatas was done with strict adherence to rituals and sacred formalities. It is based on the “Devaprashnam”, which is a sacred astrological ritual used to seek answers from the deity of the temple. The devaprashnam conducted for the Pathirisseri family clearly designated the current generation to initiate the shifting of the moola kshetra, which is in a serene and sacred land. Kundurkunnu has geographical significance similar to Sabarimala, where Lord Ayyappan resides!!

Recently, in a quiet and emotional conversation, Mohanji’s mother shared a revelation that deeply moved me. She spoke of the day he was born—a moment steeped in grace and divine orchestration. At that time, medical facilities were distant, and it was Mohanji’s own father, an orthopaedic surgeon by profession, who took complete charge of the delivery.

With calm precision and paternal love, he delivered his son with his own hands, ensuring every step with the care and skill of both a doctor and a father.

She described how the newborn was entirely enclosed in the placenta—a rare occurrence. Without hesitation, his father severed the placenta, gently unwrapped the child, cut the umbilical cord, and ensured his safe, steady arrival into this world—all alone, with unwavering presence and grace.

Hearing this, I was overwhelmed with awe. Mohanji was literally born into the hands of his father—a powerful symbol of self-reliance, sacred trust, and divine protection.

And today, as the Prathishta of Dharma Sastha unfolds on this very soil, I cannot help but feel that something far deeper is taking place. This is not just a reconsecration of a family deity—it is the rekindling of the umbilical cord that connects Mohanji to his ancestral roots, to Dharma, and to this divine land of Kundurkkunnu. Through this act of reinstating Dharma Sastha at the moola sthanam, Mohanji is not only honouring his lineage but spiritually anchoring countless lives to the source of divine sustenance and inner strength.

This is a return to origin, not just for one person or one family, but for the light of Sanatana Dharma that flows through generations. Through this powerful gesture, Mohanji reminds us that healing begins not in distant lands but at home—where the soul first touched the earth and where divine vibrations continue to call us back again and again.

Let this be a moment of reverence, of rekindled faith, and of silent celebration. For what has unfolded today is not just a Prathishta—it is the realignment of destiny, the reawakening of sacred bonds, and the quiet affirmation that the divine always remembers where it began.

Jai Dharma Sastha. Jai Mohanji.
