Namrata-guru-grace

When the Guru Held Her Heart

by Namrata Mehta, India

This testimonial is about how the grace of the Guru healed and gave new life to my mother, who is 78 years old, making every challenging and critical situation smooth and easy.

My mother, who met Mohanji in person in November 2024, just before the Gujarat trail, had been living in Vadodara all by herself, as my elder brother had shifted to the USA just eight months prior. She had undergone bypass surgery in 2018. She was now again having chest pain. She is active physically and mentally, but the tests revealed that previous surgery had been done where all the grafts were blocked. This needed an urgent decision.

I had called her at Vallabh Vidyanagar, my place to stay for a few days, which is 40 km from Vadodara. During her stay, we noticed that she was unable to walk 200-300 metres and would feel breathless for a few minutes. We consulted a physician who is a close friend of my husband Amit, and he advised us to undergo Angiography as soon as possible.

The next day, we had an appointment with the doctor, who is also well-known to Amit for Angiography. He asked us to show previous bypass reports before doing the Angiography, which she did not bring. Also, we were talking about 7-year-old reports, which she was unable to recall. We were sure that they were not in her cupboard but kept somewhere else; this was going to be challenging for us to get those reports in time as it might consume 4-5 hours travelling to Vadodara and searching and coming back.

However, the grace started flowing as we reached Vadodara, and within 15 minutes, we found the file, which was also in her cupboard. Returning back to Anand, out of the blue, I just came across the name Dr. Wasir and felt internally talk to him.

We headed back to Anand, and the Angiography was done. The doctor came and showed us a CD, explaining everything in detail. All grafts done previously were blocked, which is a very rare occurrence; unfortunately, this happened in our case.

He also let us know that angioplasty is not at all possible in my mom’s case as there was no space to enter and put a stent, so bypass surgery was the only option, which was also very risky, but according to him, it was easier than angioplasty in this case. He also asked us to keep him posted about our decision, as he knew Amit. He immediately made an appointment in a very famous and big hospital in Ahmedabad and told us to meet the doctor.

The next day, we went to Ahmedabad and met the doctor. Looking at her active condition, he suggested we go for a bypass, which was a high risk as it’s already been done before, and if not, we should think of angioplasty as well, but as early as possible.

We came back home at night, and on the way home, I felt an urgent need to talk to Dr. Wasir once before going ahead; by the way, I had heard his name in the Foundation but had never met him and known him as a surgeon but little did I know that he is a cardiac surgeon. I didn’t know how to contact him and was sceptical about calling him directly.

I contacted Sanjay Bhai of Canada and narrated the situation. He contacted Dr. Wasir at night and asked me to contact him the next morning. The next morning, I texted Dr. Wasir, and we had a phone call in which I told him about the situation that had arisen. He asked us to send the reports and CD of the Angiography, which we did within a day.

As per Dr. Wasir, all his attempts to open the film failed till, out of nowhere, his son Amanpreet, a doctor, too, opened it. He saw the film & decided that surgery was very high risk, although it was the first option. He decided on an angioplasty, which meant opening the blocked vessels without surgery.

He then enquired about where we stay in Gujarat, as he was discussing a different state from his and which cities might be closer to us. He instructed us to wait until he could find some resources. We were open to going to Delhi if he called us, and he was also having that as the last option. He then called us and let us know that angioplasty was possible, which was a big relief for me as the doctors of Anand had cut off that option for us.

Divine grace began to flow as Dr Wasir shared things with me. He obtained the contact information of a senior doctor in Ahmedabad, which is 2 hours from my town. His one phone call was answered, and the doctor was informed about the case. An appointment was scheduled for us to meet.

Before going to Ahmedabad, we talked to Dr Wasir about the risks. We were made aware of the angioplasty process as it was not normal, and the high risk that was involved putting more pressure on the vessels, which narrowed down and ruptured the vessel and caused internal bleeding. But one statement from him made everything crystal clear to me, and I trusted him completely. He said, “If it was my mother’s case, I would definitely go for angioplasty”. That’s it. We decided to go for it.

We have an appointment with a doctor in Ahmedabad on a Thursday (Guruvaar in Gujarati), which means Guru’s Day. I knew that my Guru’s grace was with us; we went and met the doctor, who also assured us that in spite of the high risk, angioplasty was doable. In the evening, he introduced us to a cardiac surgeon in their hospital who was a colleague of Dr. Wasir. What a divine play. The two doctors called Dr Wasir in front of us, and they were happy to talk after such a long time. We were thus assured that everything would be taken care of.

In this kind of situation, sometimes your mind starts doubting and playing a game. The day before the surgery, my husband started receiving messages from his circle of doctor friends that we were making a huge mistake by opting for angioplasty. He was tensed, but I told him only one thing: if she was meant to live, angioplasty would be a success, and if she was not, then bypass surgery also wouldn’t work.

I just prayed to Mohanji to take care of it. I messaged Mohanji about the situation, and he said, “I shall be there with her.” When we asked about the estimated time, the doctor informed us that it might take 3-4 hours, depending on the difficulties they might encounter.

Within an hour, we were called inside & they told us that my mother was stable and “Things were better than we expected”. They also informed us that they initially worked on the most challenging vessel to insert the stent, but the procedure went smoothly.

Tears rolled out of gratitude for Mohanji, and I was smiling, knowing that this was my beloved Guru playing his leela and making it smooth for the doctors. Then they informed me that they had attempted 15-16 times to insert a stent into the second vessel but were unable to proceed, as the calcium blockage was very long and placing more pressure might rupture the vessel, which they obviously didn’t want.

So he asked for our permission to use another method or instrument, which would cost more money than the package. Obviously, our answer was yes to go ahead. He went inside, and within 20 minutes, he called us and said that before using that technique, “I felt I should try one more time, and this time, it went smoothly.” I knew with full conviction that Father (Mohanji) was with her in the operation theatre and was guiding the doctor.

The surgery, which would have taken 3-4 hours, was just completed successfully in 2 hours, and she was shifted to ICU.

Seven days after her surgery, she was stable and able to do her work on herself within 2 days of discharge. That’s simply grace. If it had been a bypass surgery, then she would have taken more than 3 to 4 months to get back to her routine; grace just flowed.

At each step, I felt the divine plan and grace, starting with my mother’s decision to stay with us for a long time, which she denied every time, as my son was with her in Vadodara for his articleship. Still, the divine plan was something else, as he was sent from his office to Vallabh Vidyanagar for a month, and she had no option but to come and stay with us.

Looking back, I can’t imagine what would have happened to her if she hadn’t come with this severe heart condition.

It was a divine experience, and Mohanji’s presence made everything run smoothly. I have no words but to express my love and gratitude towards my beloved Guru Mohanji!

I thanked Mohanji for his divine presence during the procedure. He congratulated me and also replied, “I am aware. I was there”.

I would also like to express my gratitude towards Dr. Wasir for his help and guidance and to Sanjay Bhai of Canada, whom I asked to give Mai-Tri, which he couldn’t as Bhavani from the USA was visiting with her family. So he asked her to provide Mai-Tri to my mom, which she did. Deep gratitude to Bhavani as well.

A heartfelt thanks to Alpa Bhabhi of Canada for suggesting a Mai-Tri session and Rajesh Kamath for giving me a timely reply regarding playing Shiv Kavacham while taking her to the hospital.

Dr Harpreet Wasir’s narration:

Sanjay from Canada asked me to connect with Namrata in Gujarat. This was for her mother, who had undergone a heart bypass surgery in 2018. She was now again having chest pain. Tests revealed that the previous surgery had been done with and all grafts were blocked.

This needed an urgent decision. My Guru will never send anyone to me for whom he has not already decided what has to be done. I started with this absolute faith in Mohanji and Baba.

If not for the age, a second surgery was the only option. Age not only made it a second option, but what best to do was the challenge. She was fully active mentally and physically. Her health issue had to be addressed. Not only her but the responsibility of the family was on me. I carried my clinical experience and my faith that the best will be done for her.

We were talking about a totally different state (Gujarat) where they were. Calling them to Delhi was my last option. Then, the magic began.

The relatives were told that the first option was surgery. The scare in their mind was obvious.

On the one hand, they trusted me, but on the other hand, they were also consulting other doctors who were normal and correct. I had to act ASAP. My first step was to find a contact in Gujarat, and my colleague’s name came to mind.

The heart film (angiogram) was sent to me. All my attempts to open the attached film failed until, out of nowhere, my son, Dr Amanpreet, managed to open the attachment.

I saw the film. I decided that as surgery was a very high risk, although being the first option, we should go for an angioplasty. This meant opening the blocked vessels without surgery.

I had to convince the family as they were aware that surgery was the first option. I obtained the contact information of a senior doctor in Gujarat.

Grace flowed. I just had to make one phone call, and he answered.

Surprisingly, he was just an hour away from them. He understood the entire case and fixed to meet them the next day. I assured them that if it was my mother, I would do exactly what I told them. I was very conscious of another factor, which I didn’t share with them. My mother, who is 87, was operated on two weeks back for spine surgery when I had a non-surgical option, too. Although not comparable, it involved decisions with faith and conviction.

The meeting took place, and the doctor got back to me. He was most respectful and discussed the entire plan. He could have refused the angioplasty, knowing the risk involved. The plan was made.

On the day of admission, I got a call from the doctor who wanted me to speak with a surgeon colleague of his from the same hospital. To my biggest surprise, this surgeon turned out to be a very close colleague of mine, and we both had operated on many cases together in Goa when he needed help.

This was all Mohanji’s grace.

With this, I was assured of a total foolproof surgical backup that otherwise would not have been possible.

The entire surgical team stood by when this entire procedure went on.

The procedure went smoothly; stents were placed, and all blocked arteries opened.

This was also a success in that what was decided to have been done in two sittings spread over three days was done in one sitting. From getting a call from Sanjay to the discharge of mother in the most smooth way was was all Mohanji’s grace and blessings.
