Lessons living with Mohanji – Days 129 & 130

Day 129 Lesson – Prevention is better than cure

Good morning, everybody. I hope that you’re doing very well.

Today, I wanted to talk about some experiences and also lessons from Mohanji about the best way to handle negativities in life. This is really about prevention rather than cure. Because he explained to us in the Acharya training and many satsangs that once we’ve taken in all these negative thoughts, words, prejudices, opinions, and stories, it’s very difficult to remove them. They stay for a long time. What helped me understand this more is the experience of the recent boot camp that Mohanji conducted, which basically gave The Manual for Human Life, how we are; our body, our mind, our intellect, our soul, our spirit, and how we express ourselves. Mohanji has shared in a really understandable way that our world is a reflection of what we have stored inside us. So, we can only experience what’s inside. So, if what’s stored inside of us are our prejudices, fears, and things of this type, then that’s what we experience. So, we can only really share what’s inside.

For me, thinking back to the changes that have happened since being with Mohanji, I’ve become much more aware of where I had a lot of frustrations inside, maybe even anger in some situations. And this came out on various people, situations, and places, which probably didn’t have anything to do with my frustration. It was coming from inside. I can recognize that now and make adjustments. But when it comes to negativities, I’m even more aware now that there’s the potential to be contaminated by them. So, we need to be very careful of what we store inside.

For example, now, as I look back, I know that during my work career and also through some friendships, I had a strong view of somebody. I had an opinion about them. And I thought that they were this type of person, maybe they’re selfish, maybe they’re greedy, maybe they’re ignorant, maybe they don’t care, or had some negative traits because somebody had told me so about that person. Then I’ve also experienced that as I got to know somebody, I realized that they were totally different from what I had thought. These have been simple examples for me to understand that it was more about what I had inside me, and I was projecting that onto a person instead of that being the reality. So, with such experiences, it is for me to recognize that negativities can come; this is from what I’ve learned from Mohanji. Some aspects can be very, very negative; people talking bad, criticizing, judging, and there have been awful things which have been said about Mohanji as well, and these can be easily acquired. If we entertain even the slightest aspect of negativity, opinion, or prejudice about somebody from somebody else, that can stay within us.

I was speaking to Mohanji about this a few days ago. He said that you could imagine it like someone has come and filled your house with coal; in the end, you might be able to get rid of all the coal, but still, the dust particles will continue to exist there. And that’s enough for something to sprout later as prejudice or an opinion. That made me realize that even the smallest comment about somebody, even though it might have been pushed away at that time, can still sit there as something that can grow into something much bigger when the right external situation presents itself and can become an issue. So then, it really becomes important to understand that prevention is better than trying to clean that out later, clean the house of all the coal.

We were discussing that there are two ways to exercise prevention. One is that when someone’s saying something bad or negative, or something’s come to our awareness, we can stop it as soon as we can. We can choose not to entertain it. We can say we don’t want to hear that. Or we can say, “Fine, that’s your experience, but I know exactly what my experience is about this person, about this place, about this situation.”

Then sometimes, negativity might come from those who are most close to us; friends, family, and people we can’t get away from. So, in these cases, it’s best to keep a healthy distance from them or to let it happen but not be engaged.

I hope you have a good day ahead.

Day 130 Lesson – More acceptance, bigger transformation

Good morning, everybody. I hope you’re doing well.

Today, I wanted to share an observation about the connection that people have with Mohanji. I’ve shared before in previous messages that the orientation of the person determines how they’ll connect to Mohanji and how Mohanji will respond. He’s a friend; he’s available for people; he’s available for the world. And like a true friend, depending on what that person needs or what that person is looking for, he responds accordingly. For example, when someone comes as a spiritual seeker, he responds as a guru. Or if someone has a deep burning question, he’ll respond as a teacher. If somebody is looking for a purpose in their life, he’ll respond with directions for service activities through karma yoga. Like this, there are many different types of connections.

More recently, I’ve seen many more people connecting to him as a trusted business advisor because he has 22 years of very successful business experience in the shipping industry. But something else that I’ve noticed is that Mohanji’s interaction with them is not based on likes, dislikes or opinions or what somebody does or doesn’t do in their work or life. One of the key things that determine how he connects to people is their connection to him. He has no discrimination, and as he mentioned before, he’s available. How I’ve seen that displayed is that if people come to him with a very superficial connection, he responds accordingly. But for people who have a deep connection to him, a real surrender and acceptance of him, he gives it all – a complete transformation to them.

I’ve witnessed this with many people who’ve come in close contact with Mohanji. So, it’s as if the level of change or transformation that’s possible is directly connected to a person’s level of acceptance of Mohanji, of who he is, and of what he’s doing. Mohanji said before as well that accepting him is accepting yourself. He’s guiding people back to themselves. So, depending on that level of acceptance, there is a corresponding effect in transformation.

That’s a short observation for today. Something that is a reminder for me is to always be present with how I’m interacting with Mohanji because although I’m close to him, I still have to make sure of what my connection is. It can be easy to only see the form, especially when we’re so busy with activities, and particularly when we’re travelling, moving from one place to the next. So, it’s a good observation for me to ponder upon.

I hope you have a great day ahead.

Epitome of love

By Supreet Bedi, Canada

I want to share my experience of meeting Mohanji for the first time. I have been with Mohanji since May 2020. To give a little background information, Mohanji visited Canada in 2018 during the Prana pratishta of the Shirdi Sai Baba idol at the Datta Tapovan Ashram in Canada. I received an invitation at that time to come and join. It is said that Mohanji is the Master who finds you, rather than you finding him. However, I didn’t pay attention and lost that opportunity; I probably wasn’t ready to meet him.

After a few twists and turns, I reached Mohanji through YouTube videos about Shirdi Sai Baba. I have been Baba’s devotee for many years. The first video that I watched was “How to Surrender to Shirdi Sai Baba” by Mohanji. Everything he said in the video got imprinted on my mind and deeply touched my heart. It felt as if I understood the true meaning of surrender for the first time.

I watched a few more videos by Mohanji and shared one of the videos with a friend who had given me the invitation to the Prana pratishta in 2018. She told me that this is the same Mohanji about whom I told you two years back. I was taken aback as I realized that he was the Guru for me. With each passing day, the desire to meet him was increasing in intensity.

Mohanji came in my dreams, telling me that he would come to Canada, but Covid kept on testing everyone. Finally, the good news came that Mohanji would come to Canada on the 16th of March, 2022. Now I was ready to receive my Guru. So many emotions were passing through my mind. While there was excitement and joy in meeting my Guru, there was also worry about whether I would be able to spend time with him to my heart’s content. Additionally, there was sadness that he would leave Canada within a short amount of time.

Thus, I poured my heart into a letter and placed it under his Padukas. Mohanji took care of everything so beautifully. Ultimately, the much-awaited day arrived. The night before, I couldn’t sleep in excitement. My husband and I took half of a day off from work to receive Mohanji at the airport. I want to add here that my husband has back issues and isn’t able to drive for very long. I live approximately an hour away from both the airport and the Datta Tapovan Ashram. The distance between the airport and the Ashram is also around an hour.

Initially, the plan was to greet Mohanji at the airport and come back. Though my heart was not satisfied with that arrangement, I agreed, considering my husband’s health. An evening before Mohanji’s arrival, my thoughts went to thinking about how my birthday had just passed and how beautiful it would have been to cut my birthday cake with Mohanji holding my hand and me being his little daughter. After that, I thought, why couldn’t I celebrate it with him now!

I spoke to my husband, and we ordered a vegan cake. Luckily, the bakery was able to prepare the cake for the next day, even at such short notice, but the truth is that when Mohanji is at play, anything can be done. Now, the bakery was in Brampton, close to the airport. We decided to pick up the cake on our way to the airport. Looking at my desperation, my husband offered to take me to the Ashram as well, despite his health issues. I was on cloud nine!

The next day, Sanjay bhaiya reached the airport early and told us that due to Covid restrictions, it would not be a good idea to come to the airport. Instead, it would be better to go to the Ashram directly. The point to be noted here is that Mohanji reduced my husband’s 3.5-hour drive to 2 hours. Now, the question was that I still needed to pick up the cake from Brampton, so I called a friend and asked her if she would be able to pick up the cake, but the bakery was far from her place, and she was already running late!

I was in a dilemma, but out of nowhere, Manisha didi called to ask me what my plans were about coming to the Ashram. While talking to her, I realized that the bakery was just a mere 4 minutes drive from her place. On asking, she readily offered to pick up the cake. I was relieved; Mohanji was at work! After Mohanji arrived at the airport, he left for the Ashram, and so did we from our home. My younger daughter made a little drawing for Mohanji, which we forgot at home, and this made my daughter sad, so we went back to fetch the drawing. However, this caused us to get delayed.

I desired to reach the Ashram before Mohanji did, but he had different plans. On my way to the Ashram, Alpa ji called me and said that Mohanji was tired, so we will cut the cake tomorrow rather than today, to which I agreed (probably, Mohanji was testing me). Now I got worried that if I got late, Mohanji would go for rest before I had the chance to meet him. That one hour felt like one year, and every single second took so long to pass. In my head, I was talking to Mohanji, and I asked him, “Baba (Mohanji), don’t you want to meet your daughter the way I am longing to meet you?”

We finally reached the Aashram only to realize that Mohanji had already arrived and Mohaji’s Aarti was going on. As I saw Mohanji for the first time, Mohanji uttered, “Supreet has come! Welcome, Supreet!” I had a mask on, but somehow, Mohanji knew it was me. Here I was thinking of welcoming him, but he received me with so much love.

I couldn’t hold myself back and, like a toddler, ran to him and hugged him. My tears of joy refused to hold back. I held him for a good five minutes, and he poured immense love on me and instantly, I felt so contented as if I was longing for this contentment for many lifetimes.

He didn’t stop here. We all went to the basement to eat dinner. Mohanji was upstairs, but he came down to meet all present there. He was standing with us and said, “You are coming for Baba’s abhishekam tomorrow.” Although that was not my plan, how could I refuse when your Guru says it with so much love.

While we were talking, Manjiri didi mentioned to Mohanji that there was a cake to cut. He said, “Bring it; we will cut.” I said, “Baba if you are tired, we can cut it tomorrow.” His answer was, “No, no. We will cut it now; cake is always welcome.” He fulfilled my inner wish. Mohanji held my hand, and we cut the cake together, just the way I wanted. I don’t have words to convey what I experienced. The joy, the bliss, it was all beyond words.

The next morning, we reached Baba’s abhishekam around 5 a.m. I got the opportunity to touch Mohanji’s lotus feet. Yesterday, when I met him, he was a parent to me and today, he is a Guru to me. The question he asked me at that time was, “Are you happy?” I said, “Yes, Baba. Very happy.” Mohanji knows everything, and he fulfils our every wish.

With a heart full of gratitude, I want to thank my Baba (Mohanji) for these amazing moments that I will relive all the time in my heart. Thank you, Baba. I love you so much. You are truly the epitome of love.

Lessons living with Mohanji – Days 127 & 128

By Christopher Greenwood

Day 127 Lesson – Appreciating People

Good morning everybody. I hope that you’re doing well.

I’ve been sharing in the past days that many activities are speeding up now. The variety is also increasing. Last month, at the Global Summit, we set some great goals for 2021. Mohanji is really encouraging us to do what we can today because we don’t know what will come tomorrow, bringing momentum, speed and pace.

Looking back through my notes for Invest in Awareness, I found some notes from a conversation with Mohanji on the importance of appreciating people. I realized and recognized that my general tendency when things or activities become hectic is that I tend to narrow down on what has to happen rather than on the people around me. In some respect, this tendency could have a weakness or cause missed opportunities. Re-reading this passage of notes about appreciation and how it can help, I’m relearning that this has a great value.

We can all think about our own life of what happens when somebody appreciates us. Usually, it makes us feel good, inspiring us to do more. It helps us carry on doing what we’re doing and even push ourselves to do something additional. So if that’s how it makes us feel, then that’s how it makes others feel.

In a big global family like this, it has great value because there is an element of appreciation behind every innovation and transformation. Someone may have said, “Okay, you’re doing well.” Thus, appreciating people helps an organization; it helps individually and collectively.

Looking back through some more of the notes, I realized that this aligns with Mohanji’s teachings of giving back to the world. The more we start giving to the world, people, and situations in the form of appreciation, we get a lot back. The more we appreciate, the more we will be appreciated. This is relearning for me.

In all the busyness, with all the activities and the focus to move things forward and take steps, remembering to appreciate the people around who are contributing time, energy, resources and themselves fully to these activities is important.

Hope you have a great day.

Day 128 Lesson – Coming closer to the fire

Good morning everybody. I hope that you’re doing well.

Yesterday as we were travelling, I spoke with another person and with Mohanji about the changes we’ve experienced in our life since connecting with Mohanji. For me and others, the shifts are intense as we begin to serve Mohanji more closely. I’ve shared before in another voice message that when one comes closer to the fire, there are two options that can happen. One is that you transform in that fire; you lose all your identifications, comfort zones, and boundaries; or the other option is that it becomes too intense, you get burned, and then you run away. That running away is essentially falling back to comfort zones, patterns, habits, and everything we are used to in life.

The conversation was a good reflection on some of the changes that could happen. One of the things that stood out in this conversation as a good point of reflection is that I began to see many of the relationships I’ve held in life in a different light. As my awareness increased, my clarity on certain topics and realities of life and relationships was also seen through a different lens. I realized that many of these were superficial and dropped off over time. It’s not because there’s a good or bad, but just the understanding that whatever created that connection is no longer there.

In the process of becoming more aware and gaining more clarity, one of the challenges is confusion. We’re shifting from a life that we were very much used to, to something different and not used to. That shift requires moving from superficial identifications, or usual life, to reality or truth. These times and these periods can vary in intensity, as I’ve experienced connecting with Mohanji. As Mohanji spoke before, he’s constantly breaking comfort zones. For me, it’s happened time and time again; expectations are smashed, comfort zones are broken, and understanding about myself and identifications are all completely trashed or challenged, which can be very uncomfortable. This path is about demolishing patterns and can become extremely painful because it’s constant.

But what comes out of it is definitely – a lightness, a new/fresh perspective, and more ease in life. Something that I’ve noticed, as I’ve come closer to serving Mohanji, is that there’s really no end to this. There will be an end at some point, but it comes and goes. Time after time, there’s always a challenge of these patterns, of these comfort zones. So when people want to come, connect to Mohanji and serve him more closely, it can be quite challenging. Because as the intensity increases, and if people are holding on to patterns, it becomes suffering. As I mentioned before at the start, there are only really one of two options. It’s either a complete transformation in that fire, or by holding on to past life, it becomes suffering; people get burned, and they leave.

This is why he always warns people or at least asks them when they come closer or would like to serve him, “Are you sure? Are you ready?” Because the only thing that can really help pull people through is when they’re crystal clear that that’s the priority they want to set for their life.

Hope you have a good day and will speak to you soon.

Mohanji’s silent message to a devotee

By Charles Ndifon Londi, Canada

Mohanji advocates a vegan lifestyle, and this makes sense when viewed from the ahimsa (non-violence to all sentient beings) perspective. The beauty of his style is that it is suggestive and not forced upon the devotee, and this enables him/her to handle the changes that come with adherence to Consciousness Kriya (a lifestyle of humility, non-violence, gratitude and purity). And so, quite frankly, some will give up meat and meat products slowly and in a natural way.

It will come from within and not so much from without. However, along the way, there will be silent nudges and reminders from Mohanji of the virtues of leading a vegan lifestyle. This is what happened to a Mohanji devotee in the Congo Democratic Republic, Joseph, whom I jokingly call Tonton Jeff, the grand Hindu of Congo. The story that follows is about his experience, and he has granted me permission to narrate it for the edification of all.

On account of many household chores, he had to engage another housemaid soon after, the former one left. After some time, he realized that the new housemaid, unlike the former one, would not eat whenever food was served with meat. Joseph decided to ask her why she was behaving in that way. The young lady told him she is a Christian, and the Pastor of her church discourages the eating of animal flesh.

The young lady to whom I spoke said all congregation members are strict vegetarians. The church members come together and produce something that resembles meat from non-animal ingredients, and this is sold to congregants as a viable food source. So the encounter with meat at Joseph’s home caused her to become squeamish, and she just kept away whenever food with traces of animal flesh was served.

The run-up to this situation, she said, was her health which was never good until she joined this Christian church where fasting and prayers were done, and the eating of meat in all forms was eschewed. Thereafter, she was relieved of all her health afflictions, she said, and that is why she could not go back to eating animal flesh. And here, the silent but audible voice of Mohanji comes in.

In my conversation with Joseph, he himself told me that he understood this subtle message from Mohanji through his housemaid and that he’ll make efforts to be like her housemaid too. I was very thrilled by this story which illustrates the use of what some call the ‘Golden Tongued’ wisdom by great Masters operating in the Supreme God Consciousness/Awareness to pass across messages without saying a word directly to the person for whom a message is destined.

It may be through even a mad man, a signpost, a billboard, radio or television advertisement, a casual statement by a friend or stranger, etc. Joseph’s housemaid’s story made me wake up to the voice of Guru Mohanji, the voice of God, all around me, and this may well be a message for anyone else.

From the maid’s experience, I deduce that even if one were not a spiritually-minded person, a vegan lifestyle has a huge positive impact on one’s personal health, which is a plus, not a minus. I have, since becoming a Kriya Yogi, tried to do some research on human beings and meat-eating, and this is what I found out.

The intestines of human beings aren’t designed to handle meat, so man is actually a herbivore (eating leaves and plants). If a herbivore eats meat (man, for example), it takes a very long time to exit the body, putrifies and produces noxious gases and all kinds of toxins that compromise health.

It cannot be gainsaid that human beings, who are by nature herbivores, don’t have a problem with meat digestion and excretion. Perhaps Joseph’s housemaid’s story of chronic ill health and becoming well and vibrant after she stopped eating meat is a good signpost for anyone who cares nothing about spirituality but just wants to improve their health. One may well stumble on Mohanji’s guidance to physical and spiritual healing in the process.

From antiquities to awareness

by Vipin Koodiyedath, Kerala, India

Water droplets do not know about the ocean. But those drops of water are not satisfied until they become the ocean. Every drop of water is a journey in search of the ocean and the journey of that water droplet to dissolve in it. The water droplet can only be completed on target when it reaches the river.

Mohanji is like a river, and it keeps flowing. When we drown in that river with our minds full of the filth of antiquities, we become aware of our purpose.

Overcoming all obstacles, the first water droplet begins its journey through the cliffs of the mountains, and its life journey through the valley is always challenging. Mohanji’s life was like that. By the time Mohanji had flown into the abyssal valley of enlightenment, much of the value of his talking life had left him. One thing we do not remember is the pain of the river when we enjoy the beauty of the great waterfall.

Researchers and philosophers can only be found in the timeless tradition of India. Overcoming all worldly desires, they will carry out their enlightenment work quietly and unselfishly and complete their mission, and they will be fully realized. Mohanji is the Guru of that series.

Mohanji says that it is not time but the conviction that heals your wounds. That conviction is not merely physical. It’s about recognizing who we are.

From the Indian subcontinent, Mohanji’s journey spans 92 countries. From a place called Puthur in Palakkad, his mission has now spread worldwide. For some, Mohanji is a friend; for others, he is a guru. For many, he is a guardian; for some, he is worshipped as the incarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba, and for those who rejoice in the play of an avadhoota, he is an incarnation of Dattatreya Maharshi.

The life picture of any person is never static; It is subject to change over time. Those changes must be in pursuit of his purpose in life.

Lessons living with Mohanji – Days 125 & 126

By Christopher Greenwood

Day 125 Lesson – Going beyond the ordinary

In the past, I’ve shared messages about how Mohanji’s vision really encompasses all aspects of an activity or a platform. For example, each Mohanji founded platform has a very distinct vision, purpose, set of goals, and clarity on where it could potentially reach. Plus, we have the pace at which activities are moving. This is a deadly combination for good things to come into the world.

What I wanted to share today was a new initiative, which has been founded by Mohanji, which I think is fantastic. And that’s the fruit tree plantation drive. Besides being a great initiative itself, for me, it’s a good reminder of how, when you have something, an idea, if you look at all of the options and the possibilities of how that could be taken to its highest potential, you can come up with something great. Because many people plant trees, but very few people have said – actually, we’re going to plant fruit-bearing trees.

This is a good reminder for me because as the to-do list grows, what can be a common fallback is to quickly complete tasks as fast as I can, which means things get done. But then the time is also not taken to see if anything could have been done better, anything improved, whether something could have actually been something much greater.

I’ve seen many tree planting initiatives across the world where people will plant trees in an effort to combat the effects of climate change or CO2 emissions. You could even pick these up when you were able to travel by air, not that we can do much of this at the moment, but on some plane tickets, you could tick a box and say that you’d like to offset the carbon emissions by planting trees. But what I hadn’t thought about and has come out from this initiative is, what trees are being planted.

Here in India, there’s a popular way to plant trees or regenerate forests, and that is being done with Acacia. Actually, I learned here that this is terribly hungry for water; it sucks it all out of the ground, which means the surrounding areas are left devastated. So on the face of it, planting a tree is a good thing, but if it’s at the detriment of something else, it isn’t so good. Also, sometimes not many people look after the tree, so it will never grow to its full potential.

With this initiative, the perspective has shifted. Because by planting fruit-bearing trees only, it’s sharing a message that this will give fruit for generations to come and the generation now. So all the animals, beings, and even people will benefit now and in the generations to come. There are five countries where this will be active at the moment: the UK, South Africa, Serbia, the USA, and India.

India has set the goal that by the end of 2021, they’ll have planted 100,000 fruit-bearing trees all across the country. And depending on the region, they’ll have the most appropriate tree for that location, including maybe some spiritual trees or ones where you have some other significance if fruit-bearing trees are not possible, like sandalwood or something like this. I think that’s a fantastic initiative. The teams are pulling all material together to start raising CSR funding, sponsorship branding and acquiring key volunteers.

Using that analogy of planting a fruit-bearing tree, I’m wondering now what more I can do, especially as part of this platform, to be contributing and plant something that will give fruit for the generations to come. Because Mohanji has always shared that this platform will benefit many people, and what we set in place now, what we do now, and what we plan now won’t just be good for us, but it’s going to be helpful and benefit all of those who come after us. So now I’m thinking of which type of trees have I been planting and can I give more focus from water soaking trees to fruit-bearing trees.

“Fruit tree plantation is not just an act of kindness; it is a social responsibility. This is giving the fruits of kindness to the coming generations beyond species. Fill the forests with fruit trees. Plant more fruit trees in and around your city. It brings sweet grace to our lives beyond time.” Mohanji

Day 126 Lesson – Loyalty

This morning when I went to speak with Mohanji, he was finishing recording his 4 am Club message. He records this every day without fail. The 4 am Club has about 200,000 members now across the world. It’s a Malayalam speaking community. Mohanji’s friend and the Club’s founder, Robin, asked Mohanji to record this message daily. So even when we travel, no matter what’s happening or where we are, Mohanji will record it. There’ll be a message sent that this is the topic, and then he speaks something.

After finishing today, he just mentioned that this is out of the ordinary because usually, he wouldn’t do something like this every day. And that’s because most of his speaking comes spontaneously. For me, this shows what he’s doing for his friend. He’s said before that the reason he’s there is because his friend Robin asked him to. Since he’s been entrusted with this task, he does it complete justice without fail. For me, it’s a clear sign of his loyalty. In fact, extreme loyalty to all his friendships.

Mohanji said before as well that when somebody trusts you, you shouldn’t give up on them ever. This is also powerful coming from Mohanji because he has experienced many betrayals in life; his business partners took away his company. Many people who were very close to him ended up betraying him, saying bad things, character assassinating, and all sorts have happened to him. But still, he’s extremely loyal to people when they show trust in him.

Today for me, was a reflection on the lessons which come from how Mohanji interacts with people in friendships and relationships. For example, he’s always 100% clear on his relationship with a person. It’s his connection with them. And he wouldn’t let anybody influence that or sway it. Even if someone says this person is not good, or they’re bad, or they’re doing this, he wouldn’t be interested. Because what’s important for him is his connection with that person.

What he’s demonstrating, I can see through his life, is that loyalty is worth something. And when you look back at all the betrayals that he’s had, it’s quite amazing because I think many other people probably wouldn’t trust anybody again after they experienced those things.

From time to time as well, there’ll be meetings arranged with his close friends from school days. He still has a really good group of people who he went to school with, both in his younger age and also in college. During our time in Kerala, we visited quite a few of these people. It was really nice to see that despite everything which has outwardly changed for Mohanji, in who he is, what his position is now in the world as a public figure, a recognized humanitarian, they’re still the same; they still have their connection, their jokes, very, very, very familiar. He even attends all the reunions and gives them real importance.

A part of the theme for this year is friendships. I think it was a good reminder this morning.

An enigma called Mohanji

by Surya Sujan, Kerala

Mohanji is a mysterious phenomenon. One may call him an enigma or a wonder. It is a great feeling to recollect our school life – playing and enjoying together. Those intimate moments of togetherness are great blessings indeed. I am sure it will be remembered for ages to come.

We studied together in 1978, and it took 37 long years to renew that relationship. Now my old classmate (Mohanji) is not only a friend but also my brother and Guru. Since meeting him again in May 2017, we find time to see or talk to each other, even if it is just for a moment.

Mohanji unexpectedly called me on 3rd May 2022 and asked to meet in person. I went to his house at Palakkad on the 4th and spent time together with his parents – Amma and Achan – which made me really happy. Mohanji reached late that night and enthusiastically called out, “Surya”, when he saw me. Extending his hands, he embraced me tightly and poured lots of energy into me. He then retired for the night and said he would see me in the morning.

When I woke up the following day, Mohanji was already awake, sipping tea. While Mohanji, Achan, Madhu and I were talking, Mohanji suddenly said that his thigh muscles were cramping. I used to assist my husband when he complained of muscle pain in his legs. So I thought I could help Mohanji. I sat behind Mohanji to assist in lifting his cramped muscles. Mohanji’s legs were as firm as granite. Seeing Mohanji in this position, I felt as though it was Lord Hanumanji in a loin cloth ready on his mission to Lanka. I closed my eyes and started chanting the Hanuman Chalisa spontaneously. I remembered a similar experience from 2014 mentioned by Rajesh Kamath in his book ‘Miraculous days with Mohanji’. Similarly, in 2018, other devotees noticed Mohanji’s lips and cheeks swelling up, appearing like Hanumanji. This had happened as he was about to visit the Sai temple. (click here to read about this incident)

Everything indeed is Mohanji’s leelas. This showed that Hanumanji still lives. He is a Chiranjeevi (immortal) and will live forever. I was still in awe on how my friend gave me this realisation through this beautiful vision. If this wasn’t enough, my friend was ready to give me an another surprise!

I was supposed to leave by 8:30 am to the station, and Mohanji was to leave for Shirdi temple at the same time. Mohanji asked me why I was leaving so early. I replied that I had no other option. After this, Mohanji went in to shower. Achan and I were sitting on the sofa. Suddenly I received a text message that the train would reach Palakkad only by 11.47 am. So I ended up accompanying Mohanji to the Sai temple!

It was all Baba’s leela and a sweet gift from my friend as a blessed ending to this visit!

Lifetime experience

By Bhumika Arvind, Canada

Mohanji’s retreat in Canada is just over. I don’t even know how fast the time went. Just the other day, Mohanji was here…There is so much that happened. It was nothing that I had imagined. From day one, a lot of stuff started coming up to the surface, such as comparisons, jealousy, and self-doubt. I felt I had made peace with some of these things, but I guess it was an illusion. Mohanji is really good at popping my illusion bubble, and I am grateful to him for that.

On the first day of the retreat, a lesson was learnt. I looked at Mohanji’s picture at home and spoke to him. I told Mohanji that this was not me. I am trying to be someone else to fit in, to please, but this is not me. I can’t do this. I will not indulge in such affairs, and the rest I surrender at your lotus feet; please take care. The following day, I felt much better. I also spoke briefly to Pooja, Mohanji Acharya, and that helped clarify certain things. But all those personality traits surfacing were not hovering over me. I could breathe and not feel suffocated.

On the second day of retreat during abhishek of Sai Baba, I was the second one in line to pour water on Baba. It was a bit unnatural for me as I knew it was live-streamed. There were so many people, and Mohanji was watching. Additionally, my ego was at its best. I was gently reminded to be quick when doing the abhishek, and my instant response was, “Tell others too”.

Mohanji had specifically given instructions, “Make sure the pot (kalash) does not touch Baba. Give bath to Baba as if you are giving bath to a child.” I made several mistakes while pouring water on Baba. My kalash touched Baba at least 2-3 times.

Mohanji got up from his spot and reiterated the message again. When he sat down, I apologized to him. Mohanji patiently spoke to me, “You have to pour water with deep respect, humility, and complete surrender.” I sat at his feet, pressing his feet; memories of the times my own kids had gotten hurt or fallen sick started to resurface, and tears started to roll.

When the abhishek was over, I approached Mohanji again and said sorry. Mohanji being so kind and gentle, just said, “It’s okay, you say sorry to Baba.” And then he casually said, “Tomorrow”. I didn’t understand what he meant. In the evening, there was a satsang. When the satsang was over, and as Mohanji was leaving, I approached him and requested him to grant me the experience of doing the abhishek to Baba.

I know this deep within that without the grace of a Guru, any experience is not possible. Mohanji knew what I had requested, and yet he started giving instructions to everyone on how we should give abhishek to Baba. I went home and spoke to Mohanji’s picture again. I had an honest chat with him. I told him I didn’t understand at all what he meant when he says do abhishek as if you are giving a bath to your own child. I said to Mohanji, “Because it is Baba, I am being so gentle. If it’s my own kids, I would be over and done with.” So what did he really mean….

I further said, “Mohanji, if I had received the love of parents, boyfriend, and husband, I would know what you are talking about. I have never experienced the love you are describing. So what am I supposed to do, how am I supposed to do?”  The next morning at 4 am, before starting for the ashram, I sat again in front of Mohanji’s picture, surrendering all these thoughts in my mind at his lotus feet.

I reached the ashram, and the abhishek commenced. Today I was almost the last one to do the abhishek. While doing the abhishek, something miraculous happened. Nobody mattered, nothing mattered…everything ceased to exist. The only thing that was present was me and Mohanji, and Baba.

I visualized Mohanji in Baba, pouring the water with love and gentleness that was unfamiliar to me. I felt so much love for Baba. I was pampering Baba like a baby. He was the baby Krishna, and I rubbed his hands, legs, and face, holding his chin. I gave a bath to Baba that day to my heart’s content. When the abhishek was over, and Mohanji was about to leave, I ran like a child towards him, I couldn’t control myself, and I told him, “Mohanji, this is what you meant; I didn’t know, didn’t understand; now I know. I feel so content and happy.”

It is really hard to explain how happy I felt at that moment. My heart was filled with love, so much love. Mohanji, I know that this was only possible because you granted me the experience out of your kindness and compassion. So casually, you said, “Tomorrow,” but gave me such a profound and deeply satisfying experience. It is just you who can do this. Mohanji, you are magic, my magic!

I would like to share what specific guidelines Mohanji gave us when doing the abhishek; maybe you will find it helpful.

Mohanji shared that you can pour water on the head, but washing both hands and legs is very important. He said one should start from the top and then move towards the feet. He also suggested that instead of using the kalash, if we pour water into one hand and then pour it on Baba and rub him, we will use less water and will be able to do it better.

When drying Baba, Mohanji was very particular about the towel once used for feet and legs should not be used for the face and head or upper body. So again, start from the head and upper body, and come down towards the legs and feet.  Most importantly, don’t be in a rush, do it gently.

Lessons living with Mohanji – Days 123 & 124

by Christopher Greenwood

Day 123 Lesson – Living for the world

Good morning everybody. I hope that you’re doing well.

The time I’ve spent with Mohanji has opened my eyes to many new observations about the world that I never had before. Some of these have included understanding the depths and levels of greed, selfishness, and manipulation in the world in various dimensions. The more I’ve become aware of these and the negative traits that exist, the more it’s given me a greater appreciation for those living selflessly, doing good in the world, who are pushing through their activities to leave it a better place for those who come.

I especially feel privileged to be part of this family, of all the platforms where everybody is putting in their time, effort, resources, and skills towards this end – to uplift humanity and change lives for the better. Personally, I’ve begun to experience the freedom and the feelings which come from doing acts, giving time, serving, and expecting nothing in return – a real sense of freedom that’s growing and evolving.

I’m exploring this, which is very different from my earlier mindset because I was very sceptical about people who said they were doing a lot for the world, as then I didn’t believe that there could be an actual selfless act. I thought that every action would have some aspect of self-interest, whether it was promotion or prestige or to look good in front of somebody else. But now, coming with this group, with this family, I can see that actually, that’s not the case, as many people are just living selflessly.

I have learnt to tell if someone is genuine. Many people say that they’re doing activities. Mohanji says he’s doing activities as well, that he belongs to the world, that he lives for the world. So how can you really tell if someone is genuine?

For me, a clear display is when people act and live what they speak. Having lived with Mohanji, he lives what he says without compromise. I observe this daily, and it’s demonstrated through all the platforms he has founded. But I was surprised to understand he has mandated a law in Switzerland which states that when he leaves the body, all his wealth and assets will go to those who love him and stand by him. So that right until old age, everybody’s taken care of, everybody will be looked after, everybody who’s been with him will be part of that family. He has made it so that the law cannot be changed. He changed the definition of what family means!! It also means whatever comes to him will be left back for the world. So, he is living for the world.

It’s a clear sign that he means what he says. This is registered in Switzerland, and all the foundation activities are audited by the federal government. For example, there are also people who earn a lot of money, say 1 million, and then they can give 10,000. They share that they’re giving 10,000 but don’t tell anyone they’re earning a million. But here, with this law, the aim that I can see is that whatever is acquired will be accessible back to the world. I was impressed when I heard this because, as an organization, it’s another level of transparency that demonstrates that what we speak and what we do are the same; there’s no distortion.

I hope you have a great day ahead, and I’ll share another message with you again very soon.

Day 124 Lesson – Believe in yourself

Good morning everybody. I hope that you’re doing very well.

As I’ve spent time with Mohanji, there’s been plenty of opportunities to hear and understand more about his life before he was known as Mohanji. When I reflect on these stories, I realize that these are powerful lessons. Because for me, more than verbal teaching, Mohanji simply lives life fearlessly, which becomes the lesson – his life becomes a lesson. All the challenges, adversities, and how he handles everything can be taken as a lesson.

If I was to boil it all down to a very crystalline essence, or what I take personally from Mohanji’s life, the lesson is to believe in yourself. Beyond all the meditations, kriyas, and practices, this is where I take a big lesson from and contemplate the question, “Do you believe in yourself”. It’s a huge question from my point of view, and I can only speak for that because Mohanji believed in himself. We have what we see now as Mohanji, the Mohanji Foundation, and all the platforms.

Nine years ago, he decided to change everything in his life. He was the country head of a shipping company for five countries, very successful, making good money, and had great contacts. He had built a successful career spanning 22 years, and he had a family to support. Then, he decided to change his field completely. He decided that he was going to serve the world. Whilst he was alive, he would use his life well. Who would do this?

Twenty-two years of career, successful experience, contacts, and networks; all were completely left behind. Everything which he had earned during his career was put into three companies. Twenty-two years’ worth of activity was invested into three companies, which were then taken away from him. He had nothing, just himself, but he believed in himself.

There’s also a story of when he set up Ammucare (in the name of his late daughter Ammu) to serve the world. Many people asked, “What is your investment? How much money are you going to put into this organization?” Mohanji simply said, “The investment is myself”. They laughed and said it wouldn’t last a year, yet eighteen years later, Ammucare is serving hundreds and thousands of people and animals every year, and it’s growing. So this is a real inspiration and lesson.

I’ve used it a lot during my time here because I’ve been confronted with many situations I hadn’t experienced or I couldn’t do before. I’ve been pushed well beyond my previous capacities, and each time Mohanji reminded me, “Just believe in yourself. And also, if you can’t believe in yourself, then you can believe in me.”

This is important because I’ve experienced that it’s visible when I have some doubts about myself, or I’m not so confident, or I do not believe in myself. Because in my mind, I’m neither here nor there. Especially if that’s about a decision or an idea, the activity also becomes weak. There’s no real consistency.

But when belief comes, “I can do this, I know what I’m doing. This is why I’m doing it, I have this reason. And I’m happy I’m doing this.”, then it brings strength to it. That, in turn, brings efficiency and clarity. So that is developing – that belief and being clear, “This is what I want to do.”

I hope you have a good day. We will speak soon.
